Art Mantecón and Gilberto Rodriguez Perform at the John Natsoulas Gallery on January 17th at 8PM

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to welcome Art Mantecón and Gilbert Rodriguez on Thursday, January 17th at 8 P.M. They will be performing at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street.

 

Art Mantecón was born in Laredo, Texas and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Mantecón’s poetry and prose have appeared in several reviews and anthologies, and he has been featured at various poetry venues in Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Jose, and around the Bay Area. In 2011, his translation into English of selected p…oems of Spanish madman Leopoldo Maria Panero, titled My Naked Brain, was published by Swan Scythe Press. Translating Panero’s poetry had consumed him for several years. In a review of a Mantecón reading, Tim Kahl, of the Sacramento Poetry Center, called his a “power performance.”

 

Gilberto Rodriguez is a poet, playwright, musician, storyteller, and singer/ songwriter. He is the founder of musical group, Diluvio, as well as the theatre group, Unheimlich. His plays have been performed in Sacramento and at the Cayuga Vault in Santa Cruz. His production of Antonin Artaud and his Doubles premiered in Santa Cruz in the spring of 2009.

Davis Poet Laureate Eve West Bessier will perform a poem at the very start of this event.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early at the John Natsoulas Gallery to secure a seat, and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic list. The Poetry Night Reading Series, hosted by Andy Jones and produced by Rachel Riley, occurs on the first and third Thursday of every month at the John Natsoulas Gallery.
