On Thursday, September 17, 2026, Poetry Night will feature the poet Gail Entrekin and memoirist Leah Korican. We meet at 7 p.m. inside the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street in Davis, and we hope you can join us!
Our featured poet for our September 17 Poetry Night is Gail Entrekin.
Gail Rudd Entrekin is editor of the online journal of the environment Canary (canarylitmag.org) and Poetry Editor of Hip Pocket Press. She taught college English Literature/Creative Writing for 25 years and has published six books of poetry. Her poems are widely published and have been finalists for the Pablo Neruda Prize and winner of the Western States Award and Women’s National Book Association Prize. They placed first runner-up for the Steve Kowit Poetry Prize, the Catamaran Poetry Prize and were short-listed for the Frontier Open Prize.
Her recent book, Walking Each Other Home, was a finalist for both the Blue Light Prize and the Richard Snyder Prize and was published by Longship Press. Her small book of poems, The Mother/Daughter Papers, was a finalist for the Comstock, Cutbank and Open Box Chapbook Prizes and was published in 2026 by Orchard Street Press.
Opening the evening of September 17 will be Leah Korican.
Leah Korican is a writer, visual artist, and art educator based in Oakland, CA. Excerpts from her memoir-in-progress have been published in Split Lip Magazine and Heartwood Literary Magazine. Her poetry has appeared in the Noyo Review, Canary, and Literary Mama, among others. She has an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and has attended the Community of Writers Workshop. Her visual art has been exhibited nationally, including a 27-foot papercut at the Nashville International Airport. She is a member of the San Francisco Writers Grotto and Mercury 20 Gallery in Oakland.

Doors and open-mic signups open at around 6:30 p.m.; the first featured reader begins at 7 p.m.; open mic starts at 8 p.m. Open mic performers will be asked to limit what they share to two items or four minutes, whichever is shorter. The open mic list is typically full by 6:45 p.m. People who show up early to help set up chairs will always earn a spot on the open mic list. We expect performances from open mic favorites, including Michael Gallowglas, Davis poet laureate Mercedes Ibañez, Joe Bacchus, and Allegra Silberstein.
