Dear Friends of Poetry,
On Thursday, July 8 at 7 PM we will offer a a special bonus poetry reading via ZOOM. To participate, visit https://ucdavisdss.zoom.us/my/andyojones at 7 PM, or a few minutes before if you wish to chat with the other attendees.
The reading tonight will be short (about 30 minutes) and will feature the distinguished poet Philip Metres.
Philip Metres has written numerous books, including Shrapnel Maps, Sand Opera, and The Sound of Listening. His work has appeared in Best American Poetry and Inclined to Speak: Contemporary Arab American Poetry, and he is the recipient of honors and awards including a National Endowment for the Arts award, a Watson Fellowship, two Ohio Arts Council Grants, and the Cleveland Arts Prize. Awarded fellowships from the Guggenheim and Lannan Foundations, and three Arab American Book Awards, he is professor of English and director of the Peace, Justice, and Human Rights program at John Carroll University.
This special event will include an introduction by prominent local poet and Philip Metres student Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, typically taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 PM, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery.
