A Poetry Reading with D.R. Wagner — July 15th at 7 at the Natsoulas Gallery

Poetry Night in PERSON! Join us at 7 PM on Thursday, July 15th, 2021 at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis.

Dear Friends of Poetry,

On Thursday, July 1st at 7 PM (note the time!), we will assemble to enjoy poetry by the Sacramento Delta’s most celebrated poet: D.R. Wagner.

D. R. Wagner has authored over 30 books of poetry and letters, and has produced over 50 magazines and chapbooks. The Sacramento Valley literary scene is abuzz about Wagner’s latest four-volume release: DISTANT LIGHTS (The Quartet). The Cold River Press books include  The Stillness Before Speech, Objects of Desire, A Book of Fixed Stars, Years of Pilgrimage.

Other recent Wagner books include 97 POEMS from Cold River Press, BREAKING & ENTERING from Lummox Press, THE NIGHT MARKET from Crisis Chronicles Press, PRIVATE ARCHAEOLOGY from Bottle of Smoke Press and the first book in the Pocketbook Series from Cold River Press, REMEMBERING ETERNITY

Those of you who have not yet seen a performance by DR Wagner should know that his poetry sings. It is lyrical, inquisitive, lightly allusive, and engaging. He follows flights of fancy, captures and reveals fresh images and comparisons, and shares narratives that people want to hear.

DR Wagner’s poems work on the reader and listeners in many ways, including musically, as one would expect from a trained musician; emotionally, as one would expect from someone who has performed his own work for more than 50 years; and poetically, as one would expect who has read more poems than he has published, and published more poems by others than he has even seen published of his own, which is astounding.

Grab any sample from one of Wagner’s 30+ books to see what I mean. He writes poems that inspire readers. I hope you will join us to be inspired on July 15, 2021 at 7 PM at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis.

The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 PM, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery. Your host is Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis. See Dr. Andy’s new (free) weekly newsletter at https://andyjones.substack.com – Please subscribe!

This event will take place at the Natsoulas Gallery (521 1st Street) at 7 PM (note the time) on Thursday, July 15th. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic participants will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter, so we can move on to the after-party.

Please join us on Thursday, July 15th, at 7 PM at 521 1st Street in Davis.
