Poetry Night in PERSON! Join us at 7 PM on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis.
Dear Friends of Poetry,
On Thursday, August 5th at 7 PM (note the time!), we will assemble (en masse and with masks) at the Natsoulas Gallery to enjoy poetry by two Sacramento poets: Susan Flynn and Laura Rosenthal.
Susan Flynn is a poet and psychoanalyst with a home in Sacramento and Georgetown, California, her writing retreat. She is assistant clinical professor at UC Davis working with psychiatry residents, and a training and supervising psychoanalyst in private practice in Sacramento. Her work has been published in Adirondack Review, WomenArts Quarterly, Tule Review, Euphony, Evening Street News, Paragon Press, Oberon Poetry Journal, and anthologies, No Achilles, A War Poetry Anthology, Voices 2020, and Late Peaches, Poems by Sacramento Poets. She has a collection forthcoming, Seeing Begins in the Dark, to be published by the Sacramento press River Rock Books. She enjoys swimming, hiking, fly-fishing, playing the piano, wrangling a poem, and protecting unscheduled time.
Laura Rosenthal started her young adult life as a poet but went to law school at the tender age of 21 under the delusion that law would be her “day job.” After several decades as a lawyer for federally funded legal services programs and California state agencies, focusing on access to health care and health insurance, she returned to her first love, writing. She has been published or has poems pending publication in Poetry Now, Sacramento Voices, Tule Review, the anthologyQuiet Rooms, Boog City, Buddhist Poetry Review, and Driftwood Press. She is a member of the Community of Writers, has attended the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, and has been an editor of Tule Review.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 PM, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery. Your host is Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis. See Dr. Andy’s new (free) weekly newsletter at https://andyjones.substack.com – Please subscribe!
This event will take place at the Natsoulas Gallery (521 1st Street) at 7 PM (note the time) on Thursday, August 5th. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic participants will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter, so we can move on to the after-party. To protect the safety of everyone in attendance, please bring and wear your masks. Thanks.
Please join us on Thursday, August 5th, at 7 PM at 521 1st Street in Davis.
