The Jack Kerouac Poetry Prize, sponsored by the Davis Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee, awards prizes topoems that honor and emulate the spirit of the Beat Generation. Named after the leader of the movement, Jack Kerouac, the Jack Kerouac Poetry Contest offers winners cash prizes and an invitation to attend and read at the Jazz Beat Conference on October 13th.This year’s judge will be Dr. Andy Jones, the Poet Laureate Emeritus of Davis. Prize winners will also be invited to read their work on “Dr. Andy’s Poetry and Technology Hour” on KDVS.
PRIZES
- First Prize:Invitation to read at the Jazz Beat Conference on October 12th, and a check for $150.00.
- Second Prize:Invitation to read at the Jazz Beat Conference, and a check for $75.00.
- Third Prize:Invitation to read at the Jazz Beat Conference, and a check for $25.00.
- Honorable Mention:An invitation to read at the Jazz Beat Conference October 12th.
- The winning poems will also be considered for publication in the Blue Moon Literary and Art Review, edited by University of the Pacific professor Scott Evans.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Send a maximum of three poems not to exceed 6 total pages. Entries must be the original work of the contestant. There is no entrance fee, though you are expected to attend the award ceremony on October 12th to perform a single poem.
Please provide a page with your name, phone number, address and email and submit it with your entry to Dr. Andy Jones at jackkerouaccontest@gmail.com.
Submissions are due on October 10th at noon, 2017. Winners will be announced at on October 12th at 7 PM at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis. Please join us that night to hear from the winners!
