Award-Winning Chicago Poet Valerie Wallace reads at the John Natsoulas Gallery on September 20that 8 P.M. Opening for Wallace will be Sierra Foothills poet Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas. Join us!

 

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to present the notable Chicago poet Valerie Wallace, reading with Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas. They will perform on Thursday, September 20that 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1stStreet in Davis.

Valerie Wallace’s debut poetry collection House of McQueen(March 2018) was chosen by Vievee Francis for the Four Way Books Intro Prize in Poetry. In their starred review, Publishers Weeklysaid that Wallace created “…a literary seance…serving as a scholar of and medium for the late iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen….” Her work was chosen by Margaret Atwood for the Atty Award, and she has received an Illinois Arts Council Literary Award and the San Miguel de Allende Writers Conference Award in Poetry, as well as many grants to support her work.

Opening for Valerie Wallace will be Sierra Foothills poet Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas. Grellas is an eight-time Pushcart nominee, a five-time Best of the Net nominee and the winner of the 2012 Red Ochre Chapbook Contest with her manuscript, Before I Go to Sleep. She is the author of four full-length collections of poetry including On the Edge of the Ethereal(Aldrich Press) and In the Making of Goodbyes(Clare Songbird Publishing House) due out later this fall. Her fifth collection Epitaph for the Beloved(Finishing Line Press) will be released in June of 2019. She is the author of eleven chapbooks, including An Ode to Hope in the Midst of Pandemoniumnewly released from Main Street Rag.

Guests are invited to arrive to Poetry Night early (by 7:45) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured authors. The open mic list is usually full by 8 PM. Please bring your poems, short stories, monologues, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate emeritus, Dr. Andy Jones.
