East Bay Poets MK Chavez and J.K. Fowler will read at Poetry Night in Davis on September 6th!
The Poetry Night Reading Series is eager to present the notable East Bay poets MK Chavez and J.K. Fowler. They will perform on Thursday, September 6that 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1stStreet in Davis.
Latinx writer MK Chavez is the author of Mothermorphosis (Nomadic Press) and Dear Animal, (Nomadic Press.) In 2017 Chavez was a recipient of a Pen Oakland Josephine Miles Award for poetry and her poem The New White House, Finding Myself Among the Ruins was selected by Eileen Myles for the Cosmonauts Avenue Poetry Prize. She is a fellow with CantoMundo, co-founder and co-curator of the reading series Lyrics & Dirges, co-director of the Berkeley Poetry Festival, and guest curator of the reading series at UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) in the Fall of 2018.
K. Fowler is the founder and executive director of Nomadic Press, a community-focused literary and arts non-profit with operations in Oakland, CA, Des Moines, IA, and Brooklyn, NY. He is a board member forNorth Atlantic Booksand serves on Cogswell College’s English and Humanities Professional Advisory Board. He has been published in a wide range of publications, including Bay Area Reporter, Eleven Eleven, Foglifter, COG Magazine, and elsewhere; he has performed across the Bay Area and in Brooklyn; and he has been featured in a number of radio shows and online podcasts, including KPFA, Fuel My Fiction, StoryCorps, and others. J.K. Fowler is the recipient of the 2016 Alameda County Arts Leadership Award.
Guests are invited to arrive to Poetry Night early (by 7:45) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured authors. The open mic list is usually full by 8 PM. Please bring your poems, short stories, monologues, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and is supported by Musical Director Timothy Nutter, and Dr. Andy’svacationing (and vacating) interns.

Future featured performers include John Dorsey, Victor Adam Clevenger, Margaret Ronda, William Daly, Valerie Wallace, Chris Erickson, Julia Levine, and many others.
