Esteemed Foothills Poet Lara Gularte will read in Davis on August 16th!

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to feature Lara Gularte. She will perform on Thursday, August 16that 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1stStreet in Davis. As Dr. Andy is on vacation, this weeks guest host will be James Lee Jobe, the poet laureate-elect of Davis, California. Jamess term starts in September.

Lara Gularte lives and writes in the Sierra foothills of California. Her book, “Kissing the Bee,”was published by The Bitter Oleander Press, January 2018. Her writing may be found in The Gavea-Brown Book of Portuguese-American Poetry, and in Writers of the Portuguese Diaspora in the United States and Canada. Her work can be found in anthologies as well as various literary journals. She is a poetry instructor for the California Arts-in-Corrections program at Folsom, and Mule Creek prisons. In 2017 she traveled to Cuba with a delegation of American poets and presented her poetry at the Festival Internacional de Poesia de la Habana. She is an assistant editor for Narrative Magazine.

Guests are invited to arrive to Poetry Night early (by 7:45) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured poets. Please bring your poems, short stories, monologues, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by current Davis poet laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and is supported by Musical Director Timothy Nutter, and Dr. Andy’sgraduating interns.The after-party begins at 10 P.M. at de Veres Irish Pub.
