Authors from The Blue Moon Literary & Art Review Perform on August 2nd!

 

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to present the authors appearing in the latest edition of The Blue Moon Literary & Art Reviewon Thursday, August 2ndat 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1stStreet in Davis. Our last such event turned into a glorious outdoor open mic, but this time, we meet inside the Gallery!

Opening for the authors will be singer and songwriter Jean Bayou. Jean Bayou is a New Orleans-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a warm alto voice. Her debut album, Just About Everything, was nominated for top Contemporary Folk Album of the year.  Bayou is also headlining August 4 at the Melon Ball, 1970 Lake Boulevard at 8 pm.

The twelfth issue of the Blue Moon Literary & Art Reviewcontains the poems of Julia Levine, Trina Drotar, and Anara Guard, the winners of the 2017 Jack Kerouac Poetry Contest, as well as poems, stories, and articles by other local writers. Barbara Link, an award-winning author and poet, whose work has appeared in numerous publications, such as American River Reviewand Poetry Now, has three poems in this issue, which also includes poetry by John Dorroh, whose work has appeared in the Suisun Valley Review and theHaiku Journal. Also included are a short story, poems, and photos by Bay Area writer Gayle Jansen Beede. Entertaining short stories by other local authors, such as Meera Klein, Bill Pieper, and Dorothy Place also appear in this latest issue. Beautiful art by photographer Jury S. Judge grace the front and back covers.

Joining us tonight will be Gayle Jansen Beede, author of a collection of poems, You Can Practically See Cattle Dancing. She lives amid wild turkeys, redwoods, libraries, and vineyards in the East Bay with her husband Ben, a ceramic artist.

Also there will be David Lloyd Sutton. Sutton’s western, Big Hills, is available on Amazon; he has also written articles for Budo Dojo, Martial Arts World, Reason,American Guardian, and Western Horseman.

Anne Da Vigo is an American journalist and author whose stories have appeared in Literary Mama, Penduline Press, The Capra Review, andFiction on the Web. She is the winner of the Jameson Prize for an unpublished novel. Her latest book is Thread of Gold.

We will also be joined by Dorothy Bonneau (author of a fascinating book chapter about race relations in the early 19th century), Bill Pieper, and Scott Evans. What a lineup!

 

Guests are invited to arrive to Poetry Night early (by 7:45) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured author. The open mic list is usually full by 8 PM. Please bring your poems, short stories, monologues, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and is supported by Musical Director Timothy Nutter, and Dr. Andy’s summer interns.
