Poets Susan Kolodny and Susanne Dyckman Come to Davis on February 15th!

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to feature two outstanding poets: Susan Kolodny and Susanne Dyckman. They will perform on Thursday, February 15th at 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street in Davis.

Susan Kolodny’s new book of poems is Preserve. Robert Thomas says, “Susan Kolodny’s moving new collection begins with her arrival in Botswana and tells the story of a journey that transforms her understanding of herself and her own culture…Kolodny is unsentimental about the challenges that game preserves face…and the book itself becomes a Preserve she creates to save a world whose survival is at risk.” Her first collection is After the Firestorm. A psychoanalyst, Kolodny also authored The Captive Muse: On Creativity and its Inhibition.

Reading with Susan Kolodny will be Susanne Dyckman. Dyckman was born in Chicago, and has lived in cities on both coasts of the U.S., finally settling in Albany, California, where she curates the Evelyn Avenue reading series. Susanne Dyckman’s most recent collection of poetry is A Dark Ordinary (Furniture Press Books, 2016). She is also the author of equilibriums form (Shearsman Books, 2007) and three chapbooks,CounterweightTransiting Indigo, and Source. After being named a recipient of the Five Fingers Review Poetry Award, she was invited to join the journal’s editorial staff. She has taught creative writing at both the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University.

The open mic this week will feature a scene from the Harold Pinter play The Collection, presented by The Art Theater of Davis, directed by Timothy Nutter, and featuring the local poet and actress Anna Fenerty playing the part of Stella.

Arrive early (by 7:45) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured poets. Please bring your poems, short stories, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and is supported by Musical Director Timothy Nutter, and Dr. Andy’s resourceful interns.
