Joshua Clover is the author of three books of poetry and two of cultural history and theory. His new book of poetry, Red Epic, has just been published by Commune Editions (spring 2015); his book on the political economy of struggle, Of Riot, will be published by Verso in spring, 2016.
Lauded by sources from Judith Butler to Entertainment Weekly, Joshua Clover’s poetry has received multiple honors including the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets and a Village Voice book of the year. His poems appear in many anthologies, including three times in the Best American Poetry, twice in Pushcart Prize collections, and one poem in the prestigious Norton Introduction to Literature. His own poetry has been translated into French, Spanish, Flemish, Swedish, Danish and Greek. Born in Oakland and still a Bay Area resident, Clover has written for The New York Times, The New Yorker, and GQ; he has been a columnist for SPIN, The Village Voice, and The Nation, where he currently writes “Pop and Circumstance.” He is a Professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the University of California, Davis.
Joshua Clover will perform starting at 8 PM. The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List.
Hosted by Dr. Andy Jones, the Poet Laureate of Davis, The Poetry Night Reading Series takes place at the John Natsoulas Gallery on the first and third Thursday of every month. Poetry Night at the John Natsoulas Gallery is an entirely volunteer-run affair. We hope to see you there!
