Dear Friends of Poetry,
Our June 5 Poetry Night will feature poets and authors Heather Bourbeau and Andrea Ross. We meet at 7 PM inside the air-conditioned John Natsoulas Gallery, and we hope you can join us!
Our first reader on June 5 will be Heather Bourbeau.
Heather Bourbeau’s fiction and poetry have appeared in The Irish Times, The Kenyon Review, and The Stockholm Review of Literature. She has worked with various UN agencies, including the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia and UNICEF Somalia. She has read her fiction and poetry on five continents, so far, and her most recent poetry collection, Monarch, examines overlooked histories from the US West.
Our co-feature on June 5 will be Andrea Ross.
Andrea Ross’s book, Unnatural Selection: A Memoir of Adoption and Wilderness, about her years working in the backcountry while searching for her biological family, was published by CavanKerry Press in 2021. During the 1980s and 90s, Andrea worked throughout the American West as a wilderness guide, a National Park Service Ranger, and a backcountry Search and Rescue leader. Her poetry and prose has appeared in Ploughshares, The Huffington Post, Terrain, The Conversation, Bay Nature, Mountain Gazette, and many other outlets. She is on the faculty of the University Writing Program at UC Davis.
Both authors will be reading both poetry and prose at this multi-mode crescendo of creativity!
The open mic starts at 8. Performers will be asked to limit their sharings to two items or four minutes whichever is shorter. The open mic list is typically full by 6:45. People who show up early to help set up chairs will always earn a spot on the open mic list.
