Dear Friends of Poetry,
The Poetry Night Reading Series is excited to feature Zinzi Clemmons and Mangai Arumugam at 7 PM on Thursday, May 19th, 2022 on the roof of the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis.
Zinzi Clemmons was raised in Philadelphia by a South African mother and an American father. Her debut novel, What We Lose (Viking 2017) was a finalist for the Aspen Words Literary Prize, the California Book Award, a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Leonard Prize. She is a 2017 National Book Award 5 Under 35 Honoree. She is Assistant Professor of English at UC Davis and lives in Yolo County with her husband, André, and dog, Misty.
Mangai Arumugam is a fiction writer whose writing touches on themes of home, community, and migration. Previously, she was a high school teacher in the Boston and Chicago public schools. She received her M.Ed from Harvard and her MFA from UC Davis, where she received a Margrit Mondavi Fellowship and the Gilbert Prize.
This event will take place on the roof of the Natsoulas Gallery (521 1st Street) at 7 PM on Thursday, May 19th. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic performances will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. Please mask your vaccinated selves before entering the Gallery. May 19th will be warm at 7 PM and more comfortable by 8 PM, so please dress accordingly.
