Davis Poet Laureate Julia Levine and poet Frank Gaspar at 7 PM on Thursday, April 7th, on the roof of the John Natsoulas Gallery

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to present Davis Poet Laureate Julia Levine and poet Frank Gaspar at 7 PM on Thursday, April 7th, 2022 on the roof of the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis. This event will also be a book release party celebrating Levine’s latest book from LSU Press: Ordinary Psalms, as well as Gaspar’s latest hybrid collection, The Poems of Renata Ferriera, from Tagus Press.

Julia B. Levine is the author of four previous poetry collections, including Small Disasters Seen in Sunlight, winner of the Northern California Book Award for Poetry. She is also a recipient of the Discovery/The Nation Award and the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry from Nimrod. Her work has been widely published in journals such as Ploughshares, Prairie Schooner, and the Southern Review. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and lives in Davis, California. 

Frank X. Gaspar is the author of Late Rapturous, Night of a Thousand Blossoms, and A Field Guide to the Heavens, as well as two other poetry collections and two novels. His numerous awards include multiple inclusions in Best American Poetry as well as the Pushcart Prize, the Brittingham Prize for Poetry, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry. He teaches in the MFA writing program at Pacific University in Oregon.

This event will take place on the roof of the Natsoulas Gallery (521 1st Street) at 7 PM on Thursday, April 7th. There will be an open mic and food and drink available after the featured performers. Open mic performances will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. Please mask your vaccinated selves before entering the Gallery. No matter what the CDC or Yolo County has announced, we ask that you wear your mask inside the Natsoulas Gallery. Dress in layers for this outdoor event on a warm day.
