The Poetry Night Reading Series is excited to feature two poets from Stockton’s Delta College, Gabrielle Myers and Julie Jose, at 7 PM on Thursday, January 20th, 2022 via Zoom: https://ucdavis.zoom.us/my/andyojones.
Gabrielle Myers is a writer, professor, and chef. Myers released her memoir, Hive-Mind, in 2015, and her first book of poetry Too Many Seeds, published by Finishing Line Press, just released in December of 2021. Myers’ poetry manuscripts have been top finalists for the Catamaran West Coast Poetry Prize (2018 & 2020) and the 42 Mile Press Poetry Award (2014). A graduate of the MFA in Poetry program at UC Davis, Myers has seen her poetry published in The Adirondack Review, San Francisco Public Press, Fourteen Hills, Evergreen Review, pacificREVIEW, Connecticut River Review, Catamaran, and Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review. Julie Jose is a bilingual poet, and writer from Stockton, CA. Written in both Spanish and English, Jose’s poetry and stories are inspired by her lived experiences. An associate professor of the Department of English at San Joaquin Delta College, Jose is currently working on a memoir to be released in 2024.
In consideration of the safety of our community, this event will take place virtually on Zoom (https://ucdavis.zoom.us/my/andyojones) at 7 PM Pacific Time on Thursday, January 20th. Performances at the short open mic to begin after the features will be limited to one chosen text or three minutes, whichever is shorter.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 PM, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery. This spring we will feature, among others, Davis Poet Laureate Julia Levine, Frank Gaspar, Joseph Millar, and Dorianne Laux. At some point, we may have to return to the roof garden, which may mean earlier readings, so we can take advantage of late-afternoon warmth and sunshine.
