Dear Friends of Poetry,
The Poetry Night Reading Series is excited to feature two award-winning poets: Troy Jollimore and Heather Altfeld, at 7 PM on Thursday, November 18th, 2021 at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis.
Troy Jollimore is the author of several books of poetry and philosophy, as well as works of numerous articles, essays, and criticism. His third collection of poetry, Syllabus of Errors, was chosen by the New York Times as one of the best poetry books of 2015. His previous poetry books are At Lake Scugog (2011) and Tom Thomson in Purgatory, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award in poetry for 2006. His latest poetry collection is Earthly Delights, published by Princeton University Press.
Jollimore teaches philosophy at California State University, Chico, and is the author of two philosophical works, Love’s Vision and On Loyalty. His writings have appeared or will appear in The New Yorker, Best American Poetry 2020, the Kenyon Review, McSweeney’s, and elsewhere. He has been the recipient of fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, the Stanford Humanities Center and the Guggenheim Foundation.
Heather Altfeld’s first book, The Disappearing Theatre, won the Poets at Work Book Prize, selected by poet Stephen Dunn. Her work is featured in the 2019 Best American Essays, Orion Magazine, Aeon Magazine, Narrative Magazine, ZYZZYVA and many other literary journals. She is the recipient of the 2017 Robert H. Winner Award with the Poetry Society of America and the 2015 Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry. Published in 2021, Altfeld’s second book of poems, Post-Mortem was selected by Eric Pankey for the 2019 Orison Prize.
Altfeld teaches in the Honors Program and for the Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities at California State University, Chico.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 PM, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery. This event will take place at the Natsoulas Gallery (521 1st Street) at 7 PM (note the time) on Thursday, November 18th. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic performances will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. Please mask your vaccinated selves before entering the Gallery.
