Poetry Night in PERSON! Join us at 7 PM (not 8 PM) on Thursday, June 3rd, 2021 on the roof of the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1st Street in Davis.

Dear Friends of Poetry,

The day has finally come for lovers of poetry and performance to assemble! On Thursday, June 3rd at 7 PM (new time!), we will kick off a new season of poetry, and a new and celebratory season of public in-person celebrations of the arts, by gathering at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis.

This poetry reading will feature poetry by Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas and Indigo Moor. Please join us Thursday, and try to arrive by 6:55 PM so you can leave an extra few minutes to climb the four flights of stairs. An elevator will also be made available to get you to the roof for outdoor poetry!

Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas is a poet currently enrolled in the Vermont College of Fine Arts, MFA in Writing program. She is an eleven-time Pushcart Prize nominee and a seven-time Best of the Net nominee. In 2012, she won the Red Ochre Chapbook Contest, with her manuscript, Before I Go to Sleep. In 2018, her book In the Making of Goodbyes was nominated for The CLMP Firecracker Award in Poetry, and her poem “A Mall in California” took 2nd place for the Jack Kerouac Poetry Prize. In 2019 her chapbookAn Ode to Hope in the Midst of Pandemonium was a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Book Award. Her latest collection, Alice in Ruby Slippers, was short-listed for the 2021 Eric Hoffer Grand Prize. She has served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Orchards Poetry Journal and Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Tule Review. In 2012, she was inducted into the Saratoga Authors Hall of Fame.

Indigo Moor is the Poet Laureate Emeritus of Sacramento. His recently-published fourth book of poetry, Everybody’s Jonesin’ for Something, took second place in the University of Nebraska Press’ Backwater Prize. His second book, Through the Stonecutter’s Window, won Northwestern University Press’s Cave Canem prize. His first and third books, Tap-Root and In the Room of Thirsts & Hungers, were both part of Main Street Rag’s Editor’s Select Poetry Series. Moor is an adjunct professor at Dominican University and a visiting faculty member in Dominican’s MFA program, teaching poetry and short fiction. He is a former faculty member at the Stonecoast MFA Program, where he graduated in 2012 with an MFA in poetry, fiction, and scriptwriting.

Three of Indigo Moor’s short plays, HarvestShuffling, and The Red and Yellow Quartet debuted at the 60 Million Plus Theatre’s Spring Playwright’s festival. His full-length stageplay, Live! at the Excelsior, was a finalist for the Images Theatre Playwright Award, and the subsequent screenplay has been optioned for a full-length film. The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley, and by John Natsoulas, and the staff at the John Natsoulas Gallery. This event will take place on the roof of the Natsoulas Gallery at 7 PM (note the time) on Thursday, June 3rd. There will be an open mic after the featured performers. Open mic participants will be limited to four minutes or two items, whichever is shorter, so we can move on to the after-party.
