A Poetry Reading with Mo Stoycoff, Charles Halsted, and Linda Scheller

Poetry Night via ZOOM! Join us at 8 PM on Thursday, November 5th, 2020.

Dear Friends of Poetry,

On Thursday, November 5th, at 8 PM we will offer a poetry reading via ZOOM. To participate, visit https://ucdavisdss.zoom.us/my/andyojones at 8 PM, or a few minutes before if you wish to chat with the host and the other attendees.

This short (about 30 minutes) reading will feature poetry by Mo Stoycoff, Charles Halsted, and Linda Scheller.

Mo Stoycoff is a poet, artist and traveler originally from the rural reaches of California’s Central Valley. Influenced by novelists, poets, and songwriters equally, Mo Lynn Stoycoff is a lifelong poet whose work is published or forthcoming in Poetry Now, The Tule Review, Sacramento News & Review, The American Journal of Poetry, Speckled Trout Review, California Quarterly and the anthologies Di-Verse-City and 100 Poems. She was also author of the regular column Get Off Yer Ass in the Sacramento music magazine Alive n’ Kicking. Stoycoff has published two chapbooks and a musically accompanied spoken-word CD titled Expedition. She works as an events manager at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at UC Davis.

Charles Halsted is a retired academic physician from UC Davis. To prepare for a new poetry career, he took ten on-line courses from Stanford Continuing studies. Thus far, he has published one chapbook and one full length book. Dr Halsted’s second full-length book, On Razor-Thin Tires, will be published in January by Finishing Line Press. He will read from this collection. Of Halsted’s poetry, Lauren Hilger has said this: “Charles Halsted finds the powerful, haunting, tiny moments within a story and shows his reader there are entire worlds in them.”

Linda Scheller is a poet, playwright, actor, and teacher living in California’s Central Valley. Her writing has been widely published in journals and anthologies, including Notre Dame Review, Seattle Review, Poem, The Distillery, and More Than Soil, More Than Sky. As a founding board member of the Modesto Stanislaus Poetry Center, she teaches poetry workshops and promotes poetry in the region. She is an active member of the Modesto Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women. In 2017, FutureCycle Press published her book of research-based persona poetry, Fierce Light.

The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month, is generously supported by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley. Your host will be Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis.

Please join us on Thursday, November 5th, at 8 PM.
