Poetry Night via ZOOM! Join us at 8 PM on Thursday, August 6th

Dear Friends of Poetry,

On Thursday, August 6th, at 8 PM we will offer a poetry reading via ZOOM. To participate, visit https://ucdavisdss.zoom.us/my/andyojones at 8 PM, or a few minutes before if you wish to chat with the host and the other attendees.

This short (about 30 minute) poetry reading will feature poetry by Lisa Dominguez Abraham and Celeste Doaks.

Lisa Dominguez Abraham is a favorite of the Sacramento poetry scene. She has placed poems in a number of local and national journals. Her collection Mata Hari Blows a Kiss won the 2016 Swan Scythe Chapbook Contest, and her book Coyote Logic was released in 2019 by Blue Oak Press. Abraham is an English professor at Cosumnes River College. Today is her birthday.

Poet and journalist Celeste Doaks is the author of Cornrows and Cornfields (Wrecking Ball Press, 2015), and editor of the poetry anthology Not Without Our Laughter (Mason Jar Press, 2017). Her chapbook, American Herstory (2019) was the first-place winner in Backbone Press’s 2018 chapbook contest; it contains poems about Michelle Obama. Her poems, essays and reviews have appeared in multiple on-line and print publications including Ms. MagazineThe Rumpus, The Millions, Huffington Post, B’More Art, Chicago Quarterly Review, and Asheville Poetry Review among others. Celeste Doaks teaches creative writing at University of Delaware.

The Poetry Night Reading Series, taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month, is generously supported by the John Natsoulas Gallery and by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley. Your host will be Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis.

Please join us on Thursday, August 6th, at 8 PM. You’ll be glad you did!
