Tzynya Pinchback and Jeanette Sem at Poetry Night – join us June 18th at 8PM via Zoom!
Dear Friends of Poetry,
Tonight, June 18th, at 8 PM we will offer a poetry reading via ZOOM. To participate, visit https://ucdavisdss.zoom.us/my/andyojones at 8 PM, or a few minutes before if you wish to chat with the other attendees.
Tonight’s short event will feature Tzynya Pinchback and Jeanette Sem!
Tzynya Pinchback is a Pushcart Prize nominated poet and author of How to Make Pink Confetti (Dancing Girl Press, 2012). She has recent work in American Poetry Journal, the Aurorean, Mom Egg Review, the Poets in Pajamas Reading Series, and broadcasted on WOMR’s Poets Corner. Finalist for the 2020 Plymouth, Massachusetts poet laureate post, Tzynya is participating in the Cordial Eye Gallery artist residency for socially engaged artists, and is a staff reader for Lily Poetry Review. You can find her work at tzynyapinchback.com.
Jeanette Sem is a spoken word poet, educator, and social activist. She has taken her fiery brand of spoken word to the California Democratic Convention, The Crocker Art Museum, and the Sacramento Convention Center. She also competed at Nationals with the Sac Unified Slam Team in Chicago. With great flair and insight, Jeanette’s poems address social justice and self-love. Find amazing Jeanette visuals at https://www.instagram.com/semply_smiles/?hl=en.
We will probably have time for a few open mic performers. There is no cost to attend this poetry reading, though you are encouraged to support your local independent bookstore by buying books of poetry, and to support the Yolo Food Bank with a donation. Your help is desperately needed.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, usually taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month, is generously supported by the John Natsoulas Gallery and by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley. Your host will be Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis.
Please do join us at 8 tonight.
Dr. Andy
