A Poetry Reading with Myah Daniel, Jorge Quintana, and Angela James
Poetry Night via ZOOM! Join us at 8 PM on Thursday, June 4th
Dear Friends of Poetry,
On Thursday, June 4th, at 8 PM we will offer a poetry reading via ZOOM. To participate, visit https://ucdavisdss.zoom.us/my/andyojones at 8 PM, or a few minutes before if you wish to chat with the host and the other attendees.
This short (about 35 minutes) poetry reading will feature three multi-talented poet-performers: Myah Daniel, Jorge Quintana, and Angela James.
Myah Daniels is a writer, actor, and curly hair enthusiast. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of California, Davis, as well as minors in Professional Writing and Theatre & Dance. She is currently studying acting at a professional conservatory in Los Angeles. Daniels’ new collection of poetry, #BLACKLIVESMATTER, is being sold to raise funds for organizations that support the Black Lives Matter Movement. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/3045y3k.
Jorge Quintana is a poet and creative from Sacramento, California. He is author of the ebook Psychedelic Surrealist Love Poetry Vol. 1 and host of the podcast The Spirits in Poetry. His work is a deconstruction and examination on the self, the soul, and all identities that lie in between. You can find more of his work at http://www.jorgequintanapoetry.com or on Instagram: jorgequintanapoetry.
Angela James is a poet and storyteller steeped in the oral tradition of her family in the Caribbean. Her eclectic presentations — mixtures of poetry, stories, music and motion — appeal to a wide range of audiences. Angela’s work has been published in the literary magazine Sussuruss and in three collections: Personally, Random Pieces and Words.
James is a certified multi-disciplined teaching artist with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. A judge for the Poetry Out Loud competition, she has worked to introduce poetry and storytelling in after-school programs. Her work has been published in Sacramento City College’s literary magazine and incorporated into her storytelling. The Angela James CD Echo in the Bone features several of her poetry pieces as well as her singing. She is a certified, multi-disciplined teaching artist and has received grants to promote poetry and storytelling in the schools.
The Poetry Night Reading Series, usually taking place on the first and third Thursdays of the month, is generously supported by the John Natsoulas Gallery and by the people and poets of the Sacramento Valley. Your host will be Dr. Andy Jones, the poet laureate emeritus of the City of Davis.
Please join us on Thursday, June 4th, at 8 PM. You’ll be glad you did!
Dr. Andy
