The Poetry Night reading series is proud to feature distinguished poet Izzy Lala! She will perform on Thursday, March 5th at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st street in Davis.
IZZY LALA is a poet, blogger, and visual artist from Sacramento, California. She studied journalism and studio art at California State University, Sacramento. Apublished staff writer for The State Hornetnewspaper and Comstock’smagazine, she shifted gears after college to pursue her first passion of poetry as a spoken word artist. Lala has been featured at various venues in Sacramento such as Joe Montoya’s Poetry Unplugged, The Sacramento Poetry Center, and Writer’s On Airaudio recordings, performing pieces about family, mental health, and relationships. Just published in February, 2020, Lala’s first book, Her Heart Song, uses poetry and short stories to present a story of struggle, healing, and hope. A firm believer in “following your heart,” Izzy Lala uses her voice to inspire people to find their own way to hope and healing. More information about Izzy Lala and her blog can be found at izzylala.com.
LAUREN FRAUSTO is a non-traditional undergraduate at The University of California, Davis, where she enjoys additional roles as research and teaching assistant. In the UC Davis English Department, Lauren is studying poetry, science fiction, and exciting intersections of the humanities and sciences. Frausto is a recent recipient of The Provost’s Undergraduate Fellowship for her research on California poets and their use of science allusions. An engaging performer, Frausto has been a featured poet at venues in Sacramento and Davis. Her poetry has previously been published in The Raw Art Review and is forthcoming in Yemassee. She looks forward to continuing her academic and creative work in graduate school, and on stage!
Arrive early (about 7:35) to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured poet! Hopeful readers who arrive after 7:40 will unfortunately find the list to be full, so please bring your short stories, poems, and songs to share. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to four or two items, whichever is shorter. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed!
The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate emeritus Dr. Andy Jones and is supported by Dr. Andy’s remarkable 2020 winter interns.
