The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to feature a prominent local poet with a newly-published book of poetry. Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas will be reading on August 1st, 2019 with former Sacramento poet laureate Bob Stanley. They will perform on Thursday, August 1stat 8 P.M. at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1stStreet in Davis.

Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas lives in the Sierra Foothills. Her new book is Epitaph for the Belovedfrom Finishing Line Press.

Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellasis a nine-time Pushcart nominee and a seven-time Best of the Net nominee. In 2012 she was the winner on the Red Ochre Chapbook Contest, with her manuscript, ‘Before I Go to Sleep.’ She is the author of numerous books and has had hundreds of poems published in print journals and online, including War, Literature and the Arts, and The Yale Journal of Humanities and Medicine. In 2018 her poem ‘A Mall in California’ took 2nd place for the Jack Kerouac Poetry Prize.

Her work has appeared in international publications as well as several anthologies across the U.S. In 2019 her chapbook An Ode to Hope in the Midst of Pandemonium was a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Book Awards. She was recently the guest speaker at the California Writer’s Club, Sacramento chapter. She is the Editor-in-Chief for The Orchards Poetry Journaland Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Tule Review. She is a member of the Sacramento Poetry Center Board of Directors and the Saratoga Author’s Hall of Fame. According to family lore, she is a direct descendant of the poet and author Robert Louis Stevenson.

Reading with Carol Lynn Stevenson Grellas will be Bob Stanley,the longtime poet laureate of Sacramento and Sacramento County, and even longer-time president of the Sacramento Poetry Center. The author of books, poems, banjo riffs, and stories, he spreads inspiration and cheer wherever he goes. Bob Stanley’s poetry books include Eleven Blue Strings, Walt Whitman Orders a Cheeseburger, and Miracle Shine.

Arrive early to sign up for a spot on the open mic that will follow the readings by our featured poets. Please bring your poems, short stories, and songs. Performers with instruments are especially welcomed. Participants will be asked to limit their performances to five minutes or two items, whichever is shorter. The Poetry Night Reading Series is hosted by Davis poet laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and supported by Dr. Andys enthusiastic interns.
