Dear Friends of Poetry

Join us on December 20thfor a special holiday edition of Poetry Night, featuring the talented and innovative writer of surreal and humorous rural poetic fiction, Chris Erickson. We meet at 8 PM at the John Natsoulas Gallery, 521 1stStreet in Davis, California

Chris Erickson is originally from Decatur, Illinois, and the characters he creates are infused with midwestern wit and humor. His writing has appeared in The American Reader, Gigantic, Capilano Review, benmarcus.com, andThe Hobo-Tramp Voice. Buzzfeed.com says of Erickson’s novella Henrytown: “It would not be out of place on a Princeton syllabus.” Jonathon Sturgeon of Flavorwire.com says, “…after reading Henrytown, I’ve come to appreciate that a younger crop of writers gets rural America, even if big publishing appears not to.” Rob Alexander of Brock University wrote these remarks in the International Association for Lierary Journalism Studies: “There is much fresh experimentation in these pages… Chris Erickson’s serialized ‘Henrytown,’ is strange enough that it warrants laudatory explication in the “Editor’s Epilogue” which conclude the issue in which it appears.”

This is what Erickson himself says about the December 20thperformance: “Have you ever noticed that Christmas is the most wonderful time of year? Well, time to put the CHRIS back in Christmas! Chris Erickson’s holiday program promises to be old-fashioned, heartwarming, and soul-saving. He will, in fact, invoke the spirit of the Christmas holiday using performance of original literature pieces old & new, songs, and dance. The fires of enthusiasm are being enkindled throughout the entire state. Get your hat and come!”

Poetry Night begins at 8 PM with some opening poems, followed by the performance by Chris Erickson. After a break, the open mic begins at 9. Join us for the performances, surprises, and the delight.
