Laurie Glover’s writing seems to always have to do with place. Her poems have appeared in Women’s Studies, Terrain, and Nimrod International Journal. Her most recent book is California: On The Road Histories, co-authored by historian Victor Silverman. Her next travel adventure, Lupine Year, will be an account of her attempt to see every lupine species in California in the course of one calendar year. Her current poetry arises from trail work she undertakes every summer while in residence at a retreat center in Sonoma County, with the current topic being the removal of obsolete barbed wire fencing from strangled trees. She teaches classes within the University Writing Program at UC Davis, where she and Laura Johnson-Bickford became mutual inspiration for each other since they met as undergraduates at Davis in the mid-1970’s.
Laura Johnson-Bickford earned a B.A. in English/Creative Writing at UC Davis. With poet allies in the late 1970s, she edited No Where Else in Town: The Davis Poetry Anthology. At San Francisco State University, she earned her M.A. and also co-founded Emerging Island Cultures Press. Her current work includes breaking ground for The C.O.W. (Cloud of Witnesses) Program, and she has read widely throughout Northern and Southern California. She currently teaches at La Quinta High School in La Quinta, CA, and has taught high school English for more than twenty years, shepherding thousands of students through the rigors and delights of prose and poetry.
Our featured poets will begin starting at 8 PM. The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List.
Supported heroically by the Poetry Night Series interns, The Poetry Night Reading Series takes place at the John Natsoulas Gallery on the first and third Thursday of every month. Poetry Nights at the John Natsoulas Gallery is an entirely volunteer-run affair. We hope to see you there!
