Poetry Night with Emily Wallis Hughes and Lauren Swift
Please join us at 8 PM on Thursday, January 15th, at the John Natsoulas Gallery (521 First Street, Davis) for Poetry Night featuring Lauren Swift and Emily Wallis Hughes.
A poet in the MA Program in Creative Writing at UC Davis, Lauren Swift earned her undergraduate degree in Linguistics and English literature, also from UC Davis, in 2011. Since then Swift has worked as a writer and editor on a wide range of projects, including poetry anthologies, travelogues, corporate guidebooks, and advocacy materials for adult education programs. Emily Wallis Hughes grew up in Agua Caliente, California, a small town in the Sonoma Valley. Her poems have been published in Gigantic Magazine and the Sacramento News & Review, and have been anthologized in Burning the Little Candle by Ad Lumen Press. She earned a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in Creative Writing and English from the University of California, Davis, and taught at American River College and Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California before moving to New York City.
A Writers in the Public Schools Fellow at New York University, Hughes works for the Teachers and Writers Collaborative in partnership with the NYU Creative Writing Program, where she is currently studying and writing. She lives in Brooklyn. Find out more about Emily at http://emilywallishughes.com.
The featured poets will perform starting at 8 PM. The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List. You are also encouraged to see the event page on Facebook to see who else plans to attend.
The Poetry Night Reading Series takes place at the John Natsoulas Gallery on the first and third Thursday of every month. Hosted by Davis Poet Laureate Dr. Andy Jones, and produced by an army of interns, Poetry Night at the John Natsoulas Gallery is an entirely volunteer-run affair.
