He was the 2nd place winner of an Academy of American Poets Prize (Celeste Turner Wright Poetry Prize, 2008), and placed 3rd in the 2009 Jack Kerouac Poetry Contest. His upcoming poetry collection, freedomland blues (Transcendent Zero Press, 2014) will be released in late September of 2014. He also has an upcoming e-book, physiography of the fittest (Kind of a Hurricane Press, 2014), to be released in November of 2014. He has also self-published a chapbook entitled 13hirteen Levels of Resistance, and is currently working on a book of connected short stories. As Henry is moving to Texas, this may be your final chance to see him share one of his dynamic performances.

Opening for Henry Reneau will be beloved Davis poet Allegra Silberstein. Allegra Jostad Silberstein grew up on a farm in Wisconsin but has lived in California since 1963. In addition to three chapbooks of poetry, Allegra has over a hundred publications in journals such as Blue Unicorn, California Quarterly, Rattlesnake Review, Poetry Now, and many others. In March, 2010, Allegra became the first Poet Laureate for the city of Davis, and served until September 2012. She is also a dancer with the Third Stage dance company and sings and plays washboard with Front Porch Bluegrass in Davis.

The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List.
