Please join us at 8 PM this Thursday, August 21, at the John Natsoulas Gallery (521 First Street, Davis) for Poetry Night featuring Bakersfield poet Marit MacArthur. Opening for her will be Davis poet Mischa Erickson.
Marit MacArthur, an Associate Professor of English at CSU Bakersfield, earned her MFA in poetry at Warren Wilson College in 2013. Her interests range from modern and contemporary American and English-language poetry and fiction to Polish poetry. Her poems, reviews, and translations from the Polish have appeared in over a dozen publications. In 2013, she won the Elizabeth Matchett Stover Award from Southwest Review. Her first manuscript of poems, Things to Do in Bakersfield in August, has won a grant from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund and is making the rounds seeking a publisher.
Poet Mischa Erickson is a graduate of the creative writing program at UC Davis. She lives in Davis with her husband and baby.
The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List.
The Poetry Night Reading Series—coordinated and hosted by Dr. Andy Jones, the new Poet Laureate of the City of Davis— takes place at the John Natsoulas Gallery on the first and third Thursday of every month. Poetry Night at the John Natsoulas Gallery is an entirely volunteer-run affair.
