The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to welcome Joe Wenderoth and Oliver Jones on Thursday, April 4th at 8 P.M. They will be performing at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street.
Joe Wenderoth is a Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of California, Davis. Wenderoth’s work is widely anthologized, appearing in collections such as The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories, Poetry 180, The Next American Essay, and The Best American Prose Poems: From Poe to Present. In 2003, the One Yellow Rabbit theater company performed an adaptation of Wenderoth’s experimental novel Letters to Wendy’s.
When asked for an updated bio for this event, Wenderoth shared the following: “Joe Wenderoth was cut out of porous rock in the rain while electricity surged. The result was incredible—what wonderful eyes! Then things slowly but surely got worse.”

Oliver Jones is a Staff Writer at People Magazine, where he primarily covers the film industry. Now also a Visiting Professor of Journalism at Emerson College, Jones has worked as a Staff Writer for Variety and Us Weekly magazines, and as a Freelance Writer for Premiere and Details magazines. Jones received his BA in Poetry and Media Studies from Hampshire College. Like James Merrill, Sylvia Plath, and Gjertrud Schnackenberg, Oliver Jones is a past winner of the Glasscock Poetry Prize, the oldest intercollegiate poetry prize in the United States.
Wenderoth and Jones will both be reading essays. Some of the topics and language explored may be objectionable to some listeners. If time, there will be a Q&A after the main event. The Open Mic will begin at 9.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early at the John Natsoulas Gallery to secure a seat, and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic list. The Poetry Night Reading Series, hosted by Andy Jones and produced by Rachel Riley, occurs on the first and third Thursday of every month at the John Natsoulas Gallery.
