Peter Ludwin and Bill O’Daly Read at the John Natsoulas Gallery on June 17th

The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to welcome itinerant poet Peter Ludwin and local poet, publisher and translator Bill O’Daly on Thursday, June 17th at 8 P.M. They will be performing at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street.

Peter Ludwin’s latest book, A Guest in All Your Houses, reflects his varied interests and influences. The book includes poems informed by the rhythms of folk music, a vividness of focus, and the spirituality inspired by the natural world. A Guest in All Your Houses explores the power of land and place to shape one’s aesthetic vision and shows what poet Tony Barnstone calls the “joy and passion of being engaged with a beckoning world.” Ludwin’s poetry has also appeared in numerous journals, most prominently The Antietam Review, Chaminade Literary Review, Coal City Review, Illya’s Honey, Karumu, Hurricane Review, Lullwater Review, Midwest Quarterly, Permafrost, Raven Chronicles, Lake Effect, Small Pond Magazine of Literature, South Carolina Review, South Dakota Review and Whiskey Island Magazine.

Bill O’Daly is a poet, translator, and fiction writer. He has published a chapbook of his own poems, The Whale in the Web, as well as eight translations of the poetry of Pablo Neruda. O’Daly was a finalist for the 2006 Quill Award in Poetry for Still Another Day, the first of his Neruda series. A National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, he has worked as a literary and technical editor, a college professor, and an instructional designer; his poems, translations, essays, and reviews have been published in a wide range of magazines and anthologies. He is a board member of Poets Against War and co-founder of one of the best poetry presses in the United States, Copper Canyon Press. With coauthor Han-ping Chin, he recently completed a historical novel, This Earthly Life, set during the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early at the John Natsoulas Gallery to secure a seat, and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic list.  The Poetry Night Reading Series, hosted by Andy Jones and produced by Brad Henderson, occurs on the first Wednesday of the month at Bistro 33, and third Thursday of the month at the John Natsoulas Gallery, both at 8 P.M., with an open microphone segment at 9 P.M.
