The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to welcome poet Joshua Clover on Wednesday, June 2nd at 8 P.M. He will be performing at Bistro 33 at 226 F Street. Come see why our good friend Joshua keeps winning poetry awards, and expect wine- the first drinks will be covered by the house!
Having won several important awards for his poetry and criticism, Joshua Clover has also been a student favorite since he joined the UC Davis English Department in 2003. A participant in the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Clover was awarded the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets for his first book of poetry entitled Madonna Anno Domini (1997). His most recent book, 1989: Bob Dylan Didn’t Have This to Sing About (2009), is a bold reimagining of how we understand both pop music and its social context, and is described as “a tour de force of lyrical theory.” Clover’s poetry has been featured in three editions of Best American Poetry, and he has twice won the Pushcart Prize.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early at Bistro 33 to secure a table, and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic list. The Poetry Night Reading Series, hosted by Andy Jones and produced by Brad Henderson, occurs on the first Wednesday of the month at Bistro 33, and third Thursday of the month at the John Natsoulas Gallery, both at 8 P.M., with an open microphone segment at 9 P.M.
