Please join us at 8pm on Thursday, February 19th at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis for a Poetry Night Reading Series performance by Katie Peterson and Meagen Youngdahl.

Katie Peterson

Katie Peterson’s lyric poems explore interior and exterior landscapes, exposure, and shelter. Peterson’s debut poetry collection, This One Tree (2006), was awarded the New Issues Poetry Prize by judge William Olson. She is the author of two other collections of poetry, The Accounts (2013) and Permission (2013), with The Accounts winning the Rilke Prize from the University of North Texas in 2014. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Summer Literary Seminars and Yaddo. Her poems have recently appeared in Third Coast, Zyzzyva, GREY, and West Branch.

Peterson earned a B.A. at Stanford University and a Doctorate in English and American Literature and Language at Harvard. She has taught at Bennington College, Tufts University, and Deep Springs College. She now lives in Woodland, California, after recently joining the English Department at the University of California, Davis. A frequent collaborator with her partner, the photographer Young Suh, Peterson is currently at work on a movie about donkeys. You can find out more about Katie at http://katiepeterson.org.

Meagen Youngdahl received her BA in English and Film Studies from UC Berkeley, where she also studied Scandinavian literature and translation. Her creative work has appeared in several journals, including the American River Review, and her translations of poems by Tomas Tranströmer were included in the inaugural issue of Alchemy. She is currently a graduate student in the creative writing MA program at UC Davis, where she teaches a class on short fiction.

The featured poets will perform starting at 8 PM. The open mic will begin at 9 PM, and the after-party at de Vere’s Irish Pub will start at 10 PM. You are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic List.

Hosted by Dr. Andy Jones, the Poet Laureate of Davis, The Poetry Night Reading Series takes place at the John Natsoulas Gallery on the first and third Thursday of every month. Poetry Night at the John Natsoulas Gallery is an entirely volunteer-run affair. We hope to see you there!
